Kohima, April 7 (MExN): The state’s department of science and technology is sponsoring a research study on a “Detailed ecology and faunal study of Tizu River.”
“This is an ongoing research project, which will study the detail ecology of the river system and proper identification and documentation of various fauna found in Tizu River,” the department said in its Annual Administrative Report tabled at the state assembly recently,
Another aim, according to the report, is to rear economically important fishes in an experimental raised way farm and to create awareness among the villagers of Tizu river basin on the importance of riverine fisheries for the upliftment of economy of the rural people in the state.
This project is progressing satisfactorily with the identification of the river fishes being done already. In addition, ecological awareness camps are also been conducted at various places to create environmental awareness amongst the people, the report added.
