DIMAPUR, July 22 (MExN): A 15-day Free Community-Based Detoxification Camp, conducted from July 7 to 21, at the Drug Demand Reduction Unit (DDRU), Prodigals’ Home, Dimapur came to a close with function at the DDRU. A press note issued by Youth Link, Camp Director, Yeshito informed that the free camp, which was organized jointly by Prodigals’ Home and Youth Link, had altogether 12 registered clients from different parts of the state, of which four (4) of them have opted to undergo further long term treatment and rehabilitation.
Speaking on the occasion, Rev. N. Tzudir, Pastor, Dimapur Ao Baptist Church and Tohovi, Associate Pastor, Sumi Baptist Church Dimapur, encouraged the campers to go ahead in their recovery with the Lord as their guide and friend and that the church no longer considers addiction as something to frown and look down upon but that it’s a disease and as such physical, mental and spiritual treatment is required for abstinence and recovery. They further stressed on the need for an individual to have spiritual growth and the necessity to harness moral and societal discipline for one to be actively productive in the mainstream of the society.
Ela, Director, Prodigals’ Home, Dimapur, while exhorting the gathering to distance themselves from the destructive nature of addiction and to seek positive things and live productive lives in the society also complimented the camp clients on their momentous achievement of living drug and alcohol free lives. Tokheli, Advisor, DMC, motivated the campers to use their immense talents and gifts for the benefit of the society and to lead active and useful lives.
The testimonies of the campers about their struggles and hardships they had undergone because of their addictive habits was a real eye-opener to everyone present and many were able to shed their misconceptions about drugs and alcohol and addicts and alcoholics and though saddened by the plight and condition of the clients, everyone felt more blessed and wiser to the malady of the present day’s pressing and immediate problem, drugs and addiction. Words of encouragement from some of the recovering addicts/alcoholics and well-wishers also greatly motivated the clients and convinced the audience that recovery from addiction and alcoholism was indeed possible and that they were living proof that with diligent and sincere practice of the treatment programme in their daily lives, every individual seeking recovery from addiction will be able to live active and lead productive lives.
The function was chaired by T. Meren Jamir, while the 15-day free detoxification camp report and vote of thanks were given by Yeshito, Camp Director and James Ngullie, Convenor, Youth Link respectively. The programme concluded with Yanger leading a mass reciting of the Addicts’ Prayer.
