'Develop sense of belongingness'

51 Changkikong Kaketshir Mungdang concludes on a high note

Waromung (Mokokchung), January 8 (MExN): Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, C Apok Jamir today urged youths to develop a sense of ownership and belongingness for a healthy future.  

Speaking as the guest of honor on the third and final day of the 51st Changkikong Kaketshir Mungdang general conference here today, the Parliamentary Secretary stressed on the need for all round development of a person and urged the youths not to be satisfied with their educational degrees.  

While stating that one’s attitude towards others is very important, Apok maintained that a youth should understand their own aspiration in life and continuously persist towards achieving their goal. Also stating that not everyone will get a government job, he urged the youths to work very hard so that they may become professionals in whatever job they undertake.

Also urging people to stop expecting the government to do all the jobs, Apok maintained the need for people to start developing a sense of belongingness. Take whatever developmental activities brought about by the government as your own and take ownership of the same, he advised.  

Cautioning the youths against falling for easy money, he urged them to work hard and earn the money which would be worthwhile in life.  

Meanwhile, in the valedictory function, Dr Longri – Chairman DAN, NBRM – spoke about the road condition of the Changkikong range. In this regard, he informed that the Chief Minister, T R Zeliang, is also much concerned about the pathetic road condition of Changkikong range and added that the road construction works has been already initiated.  

While challenging the youths, Dr Longri stated that the Naga society today needs revolution in three fields – human development, economic development and social development. He added that there is no lack of employment opportunities for hardworking people in the society. He therefore urged the youths to be hardworking and stop depending on government jobs.  

The conference choir presented special songs, while renowned Ao band ‘Samaro’ entertained the audience with their songs.  

Prizes for the folk song competition were also handed out by the guest of honor, Dr Longri at the valedictory programme. The first prize was won by Khar Students’ Union, the second prize was won by Luyong Students’ Union and the third prize by Waromung Students’ Union. A bumper prize was also given to the best exhibition stall at the conference. Adjudged by Minister for Education, Yitachu and Parliamentary Secretary C Apok Jamir, the best exhibition stall was unanimously awarded to Luyong Students’ Union. Certificates of merit were also awarded to successful scholars and achievers at the conference.
