DG Assam Rifles visits IGAR (North), inaugurates sports complex & Sainik Institute

Kohima/Dimapur, March 6 (MExN): Director General of Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, visited the Headquarters of Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) in Kohima on March 6.

During the visit, the DG was briefed on the operational preparedness, security situation and welfare measures for troops in the area. He also interacted with personnel of all ranks and appreciated their dedication and professionalism in maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Lakhera emphasised the importance of synergy between security forces and the local population to ensure peace and development. He also commended the initiatives undertaken by IGAR (North), Kohima, in fostering goodwill and strengthening bonds with the local populace through various civic action programmes.

As part of welfare measures, the DG inaugurated a sports complex inside the Kohima Garrison for use by all ranks. He noted that participation in sports promotes bonhomie, sportsmanship, discipline and a healthy lifestyle, which are essential attributes for uniformed personnel.

The initiative aims to provide a positive platform for individuals to channel their energy into sports, nurture hidden talent and encourage participation in constructive activities.

Meanwhile, Lakhera also inaugurated a newly constructed Sainik Institute along with a modern cook house at the Dimapur sector of the Assam Rifles.

The institute has been established to provide soldiers with a comfortable space where they can spend quality time during off-duty hours. The facility includes arrangements for wholesome meals and recreational activities, enabling troops to relax, socialise and rejuvenate.

The modern cook house has been set up to improve hygiene, efficiency and working conditions for personnel responsible for preparing meals for troops. Equipped with upgraded kitchen infrastructure and improved storage and cooking arrangements, the facility will help ensure timely preparation of nutritious meals while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety.

During the occasion, the DG interacted with troops and appreciated the efforts of the sector in maintaining high standards of discipline, administration and welfare for soldiers. He emphasised that robust infrastructure and efficient logistical support play a crucial role in sustaining operational readiness and high morale among soldiers serving in challenging environments.

The inauguration of the Sainik Institute and cook house reflects the continued commitment of the Assam Rifles to improve living conditions, strengthen administrative capabilities and ensure the well-being of its personnel.

The visit reaffirmed the commitment of the Assam Rifles, often referred to as the “Sentinels of the North East”, in ensuring security, stability and development in the region.
