DGC hosts national workshop on research methodology

Dimapur, April 7 (MExN): Dimapur Government College (DGC) inaugurated a two-week online National Workshop on Research Methodology on April 7, organised by its Research & Development Cell in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research–North Eastern Regional Centre (ICSSR-NERC). The workshop will continue till April 17.

According to information received, the programme recorded 838 participants, including university and college teachers as well as research scholars from across India and abroad.

Delivering the keynote address, Prof Bhagirathi Panda, Director, ICSSR-NERC, Shillong, stated that “the growing significance of research in the social sciences and humanities” is vital in addressing contemporary global challenges. He said that issues such as “climate change, global inequality, geopolitical conflicts, and uneven developmental outcomes require rigorous, evidence-based research.”

He also stressed the need for interdisciplinary approaches and urged academicians to “integrate theory with empirical research and collaborate across disciplines,” particularly in line with the multidisciplinary framework promoted under the National Education Policy.

Referring to emerging challenges, he noted the rapid advancement of technology, especially Artificial Intelligence, and underscored the need for “ethical benchmarks in its application.” He encouraged participants to undertake “honest and meaningful research” and called for collective efforts to generate knowledge that improves quality of life and addresses real-world problems.

The inaugural session was chaired by Dr Hare Krushna Parhi, Workshop Director. Dr T Tiakaba Jamir, Principal of Dimapur Government College, delivered the welcome address, while Dr Vinyuhu Lhounyu, Coordinator, IQAC, proposed the vote of thanks.
