DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 23 (MExN): The district hospital’s Blood Bank became richer by a few more precious units of blood, thanks to a kind action from the students and faculty of Dimapur Government College (DGC). A blood donation camp was organized by the National Service Scheme unit of DGC on Friday, September 23 in collaboration with RRC. Forty units of blood were collected in the camp today, donated by the students, including five from the teaching faculty.
Appreciating the gesture, Dr. Temsu, Medical Officer incharge of the Blood Bank reminded that Dimapur is doing exceptionally well in terms of blood units collected by the bank. Blood Bank, Dimapur had received a total of 4057 units during the period 2010-11. In comparison, the total collection for the entire state stood at 7000 units. “Availability of safe blood is everybody’s responsibility. Let us do it together”, said Dr. Temsu in a power point presentation describing the importance of donating blood.
The camp was also graced by the principal of DGC, Dr. Norbert Noraho. “We have learned how to receive only, but the time has come for us to ‘give’ back to the society,” in his address.
