Dhansiripar organisations against inclusion under Chümoukedima dist

Dimapur | December 21

A day after the Governor of Nagaland issued official notices on the creation of the three new districts of Tseminyu, Niuland and Chümoukedima, dissenting voices with regard to the reorganisation of Dimapur district are emerging.

On December 21, nine civil society organisations based in the Dhansiripar subdivision, which now falls under Chümoukedima district, raised objection to the state government’s move, stating that the “arbitrary and illegal move” was done without any consultations with the public.

President of Sema Dimasa Union H Vekuto Swu told The Morung Express that the CSOs had, on December 16, submitted a representation to the Dimapur Deputy Commissioner as a pre-emptive measure against any effort to shift the administrative control of Dhansiripar to Chümoukedima.

The representation, a copy of which was issued to the media, categorically stated that Dhansiripar which is one of the oldest subdivisions under Dimapur district, “has been conveniently functioning under the administrative control of the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, since its inception and as such, in the event an unprecedented and illegal move of shifting the administrative control of Dhansiripar from Deputy Commissioner Dimapur to Chümoukedima is made, it shall cause great inconvenience.”

It also cautioned that the CSOs would sternly oppose the move and “fight tooth and nail against such action through democratic means.”

The representation was submitted by nine organisations—the Sema Dimasa Union, Aqahuto Area Kukami Kuqhakulu, Dimasa GB Union, Aqahuto Sulimi Totimi Hoho, Aqahuto Area Students’ Union, Dimasa Women Organisation, and the Aqahuto Area Youth Front (Dhansiripar Area).

According to Swu, the organisations did not receive any response from the DC regarding the representation. He also pointed out that the matter was not taken up during the District Planning and Development Board meeting, unlike the proposal for Niuland district.

“The people of Dhansirpar were not even given the chance to have their say,” he maintained.

Swu also referred to the boundary dispute between Peren and Dimapur districts which has been a recurrent issue over the years and wondered how the state cabinet came about with the decision to reorganise Dimapur district.

“When they have not even cleared the Peren-Dimapur border issue, how are they going to demarcate the Chümoukedima and Dimapur border?” he asked. The CSOs will democratically pursue the matter so that the aspirations of the people of Dhansiripar are respected, he maintained.
