Dimapur, March 1 (MExN): In a step to strengthen Inter-State Women Commission Dialogue, it was agreed that there be more inter-state communication initiated among the various state commissions, so that joint initiatives can be taken in order that justice is delivered.

During a two day “Sangbad” on the theme Inter State Women Commission Dialogue organized by the National Commission for Women at New Delhi in February 19-20, the Nagaland State Commission for Women was represented by its chairperson Dr. Temsula Ao and Kakheli Jakhalu, member.

In the course of the dialogue it became apparent that there are vast differences in the status and composition of the various state commissions and it was resolved that a “uniform format be adopted by all the states and amendments in existing Acts be brought wherever necessary.”

Recognizing that cases on women’s issues sometimes transcend state boundaries, the dialogue agree that “more inter-state communications be initiated among the commissions so that actions on women’s issues which sometimes transcend state boundaries, can be jointly mounted in order to that justice is delivered to the victims/survivors.”

The dialogue urged the National Commission for Women (NCW) to be more “pro-active in the states” and with the help and co-operation of women NGOs organize seminars and conferences on Awareness and Gender-Sensitization. The NCW was requested to collect information regarding Schemes for Women’s Economic Development and disseminate them to all the state commissions.

The two-day event was inaugurated by Meira Kumar, Speaker, Lok Sabha while the inaugural function was chaired by Mamta Sharma, Chairperson, NCW.
