Dimapur, August 3 (MExN): Against the backdrop of the alleged abduction of a truck driver by two unidentified miscreants at Reliance Smart Point, Burma Camp, Dimapur on July 31 last, the Dimapur Chamber of commerce & Industry (DCCI) cautioned that “it is running out of patience and will resort to indefinite shutter down if such incidents happen again.”

As per a media report, the driver was later released, followed by the vehicle following a ‘third-party negotiation.’

DCCI President, Akashe Zhimomi and Grievances Cell Convenor, Omega Yepthomi in a condemnation note questioned the people behind the abduction stating “kidnapping is not only an offence but the highest act of cowardice that not only brings physical but mental trauma to the victims but to the whole family.”

It further questioned various Naga Political Groups (NPGs) to teach the business community how to survive by paying tax to 18 factions with each faction imposing multiple-taxation along with kidnapping, summon to cease fire monitoring cells etc. “The DCCI has no choice but to make it public that many businessmen are slowly leaving Nagaland state specially Dimapur due to constant threat, intimidation and insecurity,” it stated.

The DCCI also questioned the law enforcing agencies “to come to public as to what extent is being able to provide security to the business community as a series of kidnappings and summons are being made to their Ceasefire Monitoring office for collection.”

Meantime, it appealed for immediate release of the victim unharmed.

‘Negative activities impacting employment prospect’: GBUD

The GB Union Dimapur (Sadar) has strongly condemned anti-social elements disturbing the peaceful atmosphere where prospective companies are apprehensive to set up businesses in the state.

GBUD (S) President, MY Ngullie and General Secretary, T Onen Jamir in a press release stated that such negative activities has badly impacted on the employment prospect of the young unemployed youths, who instead had to seek jobs outside the state.

Every section of the society must strongly voice against such nefarious elements because it is harshly affecting and burdening the financial livelihood of the common consumers in the form of exorbitant price rise of different commodities/materials due to non-availability and coercion ransom rackets operative, especially in commercial hub city of Dimapur, the union stated.

The union also appealed the law enforcing agencies to sternly deal with such perpetrators as per the relevant law.

A constant threat: DNSU

The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) said that it deeply disturbed and anguished by the incident. “Such menaces in the name of ‘freedom fighters’ constantly is a threat to the progress of our society,” DNSU President, Moayanger Jamir and General Secretary, Sedelo T Vadeo said.

For this matter, DNSU has called upon the law enforcing agencies and the concerned people responsible for such incidents that the young unemployed youths in disgrace and resentment are ready to counter if these issues are overlooked, because we are aware that companies or private sector business establishments from outside of Nagaland are reluctant and unwilling to do import-export or establish businesses in the State with such kidnapping and extortion practices and threats, leading to a decline in the progress of business operation in our State.

“The Union takes this matter with seriousness and therefore, the law enforcing agencies should not leave any stone unturned and book the culprit in order to avoid such incidents in the future.”

Cowardly act: KRD

Khonoma Rüffüno, Dimapur (KRD) in its condemnation stated that the ongoing works of the Reliance Smart Point is part of the Start-Up India whereby, the Naga entrepreneurs are getting an opportunity to set up enterprises for their livelihood.

Such action of abduction create immense hurdles not only for companies investing in the state but also for local entrepreneurs, said Zakievilhou Zinyü President, KRD.

It also urged the police and other security agencies to bring the perpetrators of such cowardly acts to justice, thereby reassuring safety and security to all citizens.
