Dimapur, August 25 (MExN): Boka Rochill, a climate advocate from Dimapur, Nagaland, has been selected as one of 35 Climate Champions under the second cohort of the National Youth Climate Consortium (NYCC), an initiative by the Bring Back Green Foundation supported by YuWaah at UNICEF India.
The fellowship recognises young leaders aged 18–29 committed to building climate-resilient communities through local advocacy and action. This year’s cohort represents 32 states and union territories, including the Northeast and island regions.
As part of the fellowship journey, Rochill attended a Training of Trainers from July 25–28 in Dehradun and will lead a community-focused project in Dimapur, a press release informed.
During the six-month fellowship, he will focus on co-creating a community-led, evidence-based Heat Action Plan for Dimapur that will inform, advocate, and set a city agenda for climate-resilient action, with the objective of integrating it into a long-term Climate Action Plan at both the city and state levels, it said.
One of the key interventions he aims to initiate is ‘theGreeningDimapur Project’, a community-driven effort to identify, map, and plant pocket forests, urban forests across wards and neighbourhoods to build long term urban resilience and enhance the city’s green cover, it added.
Fellows receive microgrants, mentorship, and support from a Technical Resource Group, with the initiative providing opportunities to influence both local and national climate action policies.
