Dimapur deserves better infrastructure and amenities: DCCI

Dimapur, September 19 (MExN): The DCCI today stated that Dimapur, being the commercial hub of Nagaland, deserves better infrastructure, including good roads, uninterrupted power supply, streetlights, CCTVs in important areas, timely disposal of garbage, efficient drainage systems, and other amenities.

The business community of Dimapur is also one of the highest taxpayers to the Government of Nagaland, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) stated in a press release from its President, Akashe Zhimomi.

Furthermore, the business community employs hundreds of local boys and girls in shopping malls and showrooms in and around Dimapur, helping to alleviate, at least to some extent, the unemployment problem in the state, it added.

However, the DCCI asserted that the business community in Dimapur feels it has been treated unfairly, as the government has not provided the necessary infrastructure, amenities, security, and supportive environment for trade and commerce to flourish in the region.

Nevertheless, it expressed hope that Dimapur city will witness rapid progress and development with the installation of the Dimapur Municipal Council chairperson and his team after the elections and the constitution of the urban local bodies (ULBs).

There are high expectations for the respective municipal and town councils to fulfill their assigned duties and responsibilities earnestly, it added, while acknowledging the Nagaland government for successfully implementing the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023, “ushering a ray of hope for the development” of the state’s neglected cities and towns.

Meanwhile, the DCCI once again reminds the business community to strictly adhere to the notification dated November 16, 2021, issued by the Municipal Affairs Department, which stated that “the collection of any kind of taxes or fees on items or goods that fall under the Goods & Services Tax (GST) regime shall be immediately halted by all Municipal and Town Councils across the State of Nagaland.”
