Dimapur Flash Floods: Relief camp set up at DDSC Stadium

• 1258 houses reportedly affected so far by flooding

• Relief operations underway, response teams set up    

DIMAPUR, JULY 21 (MExN): In the aftermath of the flash floods that affected several parts of Dimapur on July 19 and 20, the DDSC Stadium Golaghat Road has been designated as staging area and relief camp. Official sources informed that a total 1258 houses are reported to have been affected as of 7:00pm, July 21.  

A separate report from the DPRO Dimapur informed that back up team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) from Wokha, Phek and Mokokchung numbering 49 members and 35 personnel from the 12th Bn. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have already reached Dimapur.  

A Dimapur District Incident Response System (IRS) has also been formed with DC Dimapur Kesonyu Yhome as the RO and ADC, Dimapur Sara Jamir as the Incident Commander. The IRS structure has been divided into Operation sector, Transport Branch, Logistics and Shelter Unit, Food unit, Medical Unit and Evacuation Unit where officers from various departments and DDMA members have been assigned to take care of their respective units.  

Dimapur Deputy Commissioner, Kesonyu Yhome has meanwhile informed that safe drinking water facilities will be available at the DDSC stadium from 10:00am onwards for those affected by the recent floods. Similar facilities will also be made available at Burma Camp from July 22 from 7:00am to 8:30am and at Dhobinulla from July 22 from 7:00am to 8:30am.  

As part of the relief measures, food units of the Dimapur district Incident Response System distributed food items including rice, dal, potatoes, salt and mineral water to the displaced people in several areas on Friday. In addition, the 32 Assam Rifles also distributed food packets to the flood affected victims.  

The Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur has also directed specific medical officers to give medical coverage as per the CMO’s Action Plan for Medical Coverage of Flood affected Areas under the district. It requested the public and public leaders to co-operate and support the medical team during the coverage.  

The details of the medical officers assigned to specific areas are as follows: Dhobinulla, Old Sewak Road, Zeliangrong Colony, K Sachu Colony, Khermahal and Nepali Kashiram under Dr Yibenthung; Sunrise Colony, Naga Colony, United North Block B, Niu Colony, Veterinary Colony, Namgalong, Chungaizeang, Raigalong Colony, Walford and Bank Colony under Dr Anguto; Thilizu Block IV, Diphupar E Kehl, Chekiye and Naga United Village under Dr Kheshika; Darogapathar, Naharbari and United Colony under Dr Lydia Tsope and Dr Visino Nakhro; Half Nagarjan and Supermarket under Dr Heto; Samaguri under Dr Albert; Singrijan and Thahekhu Block VII under Dr Obed; and the DDSC Relief Camp under Dr CW Tungoe.  

The mobile medical unit on standby is under Dr K Assumi and the Rapid Response Team on standby is under Dr Moa Jamir. Meanwhile Fogging and Lavacide activities are to be undertaken under Dr Kikolul. The most severely hit area so far seems to be Domokhia, where a combined team of NSDMA, 32Assam Rifles, DDMA Dimapur, District Administration and local people of the area swung into action and evacuated 114 people which included minors and senior citizens on July 20.
