Dimapur, March 29 (MExN): A workshop on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 was conducted for Gaon Buras (GBs) and Council Chairs under GB Union Sadar Dimapur and Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation on March 29. The programme was organised by the Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) and CHILDLINE Dimapur at the DC’s Conference Hall, Dimapur, a press release from CHILDLINE Nodal Coordinator Neiketulie Namdau informed on Monday.
In the first session of the workshop, Judicial Magistrate First Class Boduve Peter Resu presented on the POCSO Act, 2012 and various sections and provisions under the Act. He also stressed on the responsibility of every concerned and responsible adult towards the protection and safety of children in the society. GBs and Council Chairs as leaders of the community and society play a very crucial and prominent role in the protection of children and ensuring that their rights are safeguarded at all cost, he added.
According to the press release, in the second session, Centre Coordinator for CHILDLINE Dimapur Lozua Kape made a brief presentation on the roles and functions of CHILDLINE 1098 and made references on some case studies on child abuse intervened by CHILDLINE Dimapur. She further presented on the Ward/Colony level Child Protection Committees and highlighted the roles, functions, responsibilities, and objectives of the Committees.
The release further stated that Collab Director for CHILDLINE Dimapur K Ela delivered the concluding remarks where she laid emphasis on the responsibility of every individual to report every case on child abuse to the concerned authority. She also expressed gratitude to all the participants and urged them to take the message from the workshop to everyone in their respective colonies and educate people at all levels. She also expressed hope that CHILDLINE would receive positive response and support in its various initiatives for the protection of children in the days to come.
The workshop was chaired by Neiketulie Namdau, Nodal Coordinator, CHILDLINE, the release stated.
