Dimapur, July 28 (MExN): The Dimapur Police Commissionerate, in collaboration with the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR), conducted a two-day training programme for traffic personnel on emergency care and first response to road traffic accidents, officials said.
The training, held on July 23 and 24, provided structured hands-on instruction in emergency trauma care and pre-hospital stabilisation of road accident victims.
Officials said road traffic accidents continue to claim numerous lives and leave many others permanently disabled, with delays or improper handling of victims immediately after a crash often contributing to fatalities and long-term disabilities.
Traffic personnel are frequently the first responders to reach accident sites and play a key role in the rescue, extraction, stabilisation and transportation of victims to hospitals, they said.
The training aimed to equip personnel with emergency care skills to enable timely and appropriate intervention during the critical "golden hour", thereby improving survival chances and reducing the risk of long-term disability.
Commissioner of Police Aotula T Imchen expressed appreciation to the Director and staff of CIHSR's Department of Emergency Medicine for partnering in the road safety initiative.
She said the programme marked a significant step towards strengthening emergency response capabilities and improving trauma care outcomes for road accident victims in Nagaland.
A total of 25 traffic personnel participated in the programme and were presented with certificates at the conclusion of the training.
