Dimapur police issues guidelines for travellers to Assam during election

Dimapur, March 19 (MExN): A public advisory has been issued for citizens travelling to Assam in view of the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) due to the ongoing election process, advising them to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to all rules to avoid legal complications.

The Dy Commissioner of Police (Crime)/PRO, Dimapur, in a press release, stated that election authorities and law enforcement agencies have intensified surveillance and checking at inter-state borders and other strategic locations to ensure free, fair, and transparent conduct of elections.

Observing that many otherwise law-abiding citizens have faced difficulties due to a lack of awareness of election-related restrictions, the advisory outlines several key precautions.

Travellers have been advised to avoid carrying large amounts of cash without valid proof, as it may lead to detention, questioning, or seizure by authorities. Similarly, valuables such as gold, silver or other high-value items should be accompanied by valid bills or invoices to avoid seizure or inquiry.

The public has also been cautioned against carrying political materials like pamphlets, posters or any campaign-related materials without proper authorization, which could result in legal action.

Vehicles are being thoroughly checked at multiple points, and travellers are urged to cooperate fully and carry valid identity proof and relevant documents. Furthermore, carrying arms or ammunition without a valid license and necessary permissions is strictly prohibited.

The advisory urged the public to remain informed and exercise caution while travelling to Assam during this period, emphasising that simple precautions and proper documentation can prevent unnecessary hardship.

“The intent of this advisory is to safeguard innocent citizens from avoidable inconvenience and ensure smooth and hassle-free travel,” it added.
