Dimapur, September 7 (MExN): An unidentified man, who was rescued in a critical condition from beneath the Dimapur flyover last week, passed away while undergoing medical treatment at the District Hospital Dimapur (DHD), police said.
According to an official statement issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) / PRO, Dimapur, police received telephonic information from a news reporter on September 1 around 2:20 PM regarding an ailing, seemingly homeless non-local man lying near the auto parking area below the flyover.
A police duty party rushed to the spot for verification. Enquiries with shopkeepers in the vicinity revealed that the man had been lying there for three days. He was immediately shifted to the District Hospital Dimapur and admitted for treatment the same day.
The hospital authorities notified the police on September 5 that the patient had succumbed during the course of treatment.
Following the receipt of the information, an inquest was conducted at the hospital's male ward, after which the body was moved to the DHD morgue for identification and DNA extraction procedures. As the deceased is suspected to belong to the Hindu faith, the Hindu Samaj, Dimapur, has also been formally intimated.
The individual is a non-local male, approximately 25 to 30 years old, with a light-brown complexion, wearing a grey T-shirt, black pants and white slippers, and has a black mole on the centre of his chest as an identification mark.
