Heaps of garbage seen dumped behind Supermarket complex in Dimapur on December 3. Speaking to one resident whose house was just adjacent to the pile of garbage, she complained of the foul smell and flies emanating from it. “It is very difficult for us to live here but what can we do,” she told The Morung Express. She alleged that trucks kept coming to dump their waste on the site every day, adding that it has almost been a month now. On November 24, 2022, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had slapped Rs 200 crore fine on Nagaland state for its failure to scientifically manage liquid and solid waste, in violation of mandate of law, particularly judgements of the Supreme Court and the Tribunal. At the present Nagaland generates 282.43 tonnes of waste per day according to the NGT report. (Morung Photo)
