Apropos to a news item by one Ketho Angs, Kohima town regarding irregular spacing of Solar Street Lights in Kohima town which appeared on your paper on 31st May 2012, this is to clarify once again that equi-spacing between the street light posts in Kohima town could not be strictly maintained due to various reasons furnished here under:-
1. Pit digging for steel pole could not be done at certain desired location due to presence of under-ground water pipes, telephone cables, etc and also objection by National Highway department.
2. There are certain location where the steel pole could not be erected due to presence of electrical over head lines.
3. There are also a few locations where Solar radiation is almost obscured by high rising buildings on both sides of the streets.
The department is, therefore, constrained to place the Solar Street Light at only suitable locations and thus, the inconvenience so caused to the public is regretted.
It may also be recollected that the above clarification was furnished on your paper on 28th April 2012, wherein it was also mentioned that street lighting facility will be introduced in all the wards as and when sanction is receive from State and Ministry concerned for which public are requested to kindly bear with the department.
Yours faithfully,
