Distribution of assistive aid to PwDs in Longleng

Dimapur, January 16 (MExN): 'Samajik Adhikari Shivir' a camp for distribution of aids and assistive devices to Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) under the ADIP Scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India was organized by the Department of Social Welfare, Longleng in association with ALIMCO and District Administration Longleng on January 14 at Longleng.

According to a DIPR report received here on Monday, SDO (C) Longleng, TrongdibaTongpi Sangtam, spoke on the occasion and interacted with the beneficiaries. He lauded the efforts of the Social Welfare Department and ALIMCO for organizing the assessment and distribution camp for the unfortunate people of the district.

Sangtam also requested beneficiaries to use all the appliances sensibly as huge public money was involved in the procurement of the aids and appliances.

DWO in charge Longleng, Longlang Phom appealed to ALIMCO to hold more such assessment camps in different parts of the district in the future to ensure coverage of more beneficiaries. 

ALIMCO Officer P&O, Supongwati Jamir expressed appreciation to District Administration Longleng and Social Welfare Department Longleng for the tremendous support and enthusiasm shown during the assessment camps held in September last year. He mentioned that such an immensely positive response and feedback was well received by the Ministry and thereby Longleng District was chosen as one of the 67 locations in the country to conduct the 'Samajik Adhikari Shivir' distribution programme.

Demonstration on the use of devices was performed by Suman Kumar- Prosthetist and Orthotist, ALIMCO, and Jagganath Sahoo- Audiologist, ALIMCO. Different types of aids and assistive devices distributed among identified Divyangjan registered included Wheelchairs, Crutches, Walking Sticks, Rollators, Smart Cane, MSIED kits, Hearing Aids, etc.

Vote of thanks was proposed by EAC Longleng, Dr Samuel Akho Konyak, the report stated.
