Zunheboto, September 17 (MExN): The District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) in Zunheboto observed Suicide Prevention Week from September 10 to 16, conducting awareness campaigns across several educational institutions in the district.

The week-long initiative, aimed at promoting mental well-being among students and the community, featured interactive sessions by mental health professionals at schools including Merry Hill School, St. Anthony School, and Corner Stone Higher Secondary School.

Resource persons addressed critical issues, highlighting suicide rates in India and dispelling prevalent myths and stigma. Discussions focused on identifying risk factors, such as mental health conditions and stressful life events, and emphasized protective factors like family support and access to care.

Participants were educated on early warning signs and taught practical steps to support someone in crisis. The National Mental Health Helpline (14416) was also promoted as a 24/7 toll-free resource for immediate counselling.
