Dimapur Nkonjan Humtsothung Ekhung (DNHE), or Dimapur Humtsoe union, celebrated the 25th year of its founding anniversary on May 12.

The programme, held at Agri Expo, 4th Mile, Chümoukedima, under the theme- Poatso Jeni Nzan (Brotherhood love), had MLA, Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe as the special guest, and Dr N Janbemo Humtsoe as the theme speaker.

In his address, MLA Humtsoe termed jubilees as not only celebratory occasions but a time for retrospection, introspection and renewal. He added that it was also an opportunity to remember the pioneers some of whom are no more. “The pioneers sowed the seeds, and today we are living under their shade,” he said, urging the gathering to preserve their identity and remain connected to their clan and community. He called upon the people to strengthen unity, learn to forgive one another, and place greater importance on family values. He also stressed the need to teach children the importance of family and community bonds.

He further encouraged the gathering to renew their commitment towards building a better future, expressing hope that the community would continue to prosper and celebrate many more jubilees in the years ahead.

Speaking on the theme, Dr Janbemo Humtsoe stated that although the pioneers protected and supported one another through thick and thin. In the early days, when agriculture was the primary occupation, he said that resources were limited, and even loans were exchanged through grains, yet communities thrived through sharing and mutual support.

According to him, true wealth does not lie in material possessions alone but in the strength of relationships and family bonds. “If we care for and strengthen our relationships with one another, we can become stronger as a community,” he said.

The theme speaker also pointed out that misunderstandings and hurt caused by words or actions should not lead to long-term divisions. Instead, he encouraged open discussions, forgiveness, and reconciliation. He urged families and relatives to visit, support, and uplift one another rather than becoming strangers due to busy lifestyles brought about by modernity.

He said that children must be taught the values of cooperation, unity, and unconditional love.

“Unity does not mean uniformity,” he remarked, adding that people should learn to accept one another’s flaws in order to grow together. He also stressed that family should remain the first priority.
Dr Humtsoe further stated that selfishness, greed, and jealousy are the real enemies within society, and urged the people to nurture obedience, confidence, and love.

He encouraged the gathering to continue supporting and cooperating with one another, reminding them that “unity is strength” and that communities which remain united can progress a long way together.

The event also saw the release of the Dimapur Humtsoe Union’s jubilee souvenir, and observing a minute’s silence in honour of members now deceased.
