DNSU and KSU note APO’s ‘veto’

Dimapur, July 16 (MExN): Major students’ organizations like the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union and the Kyong apex, Kyong Students’ Union are still peeved at the way the Angami Public Organization went so far as to censure the Naga Students’ Federation’s protest  in Kohima on July. If their recent press statements are anything to go by, the frontal students’ organizations have noted the APO’s action.

The APO had clamped its refusal to the July 10 protest of the NSF for what was later explained to be “lack of respect to the authority of APO” and that the federation did not “consult and seek the prior permission from the APO.” Later, the APO had also issued a statement prohibiting any demonstration of public activism ‘without its consent’.

For the second time since the censure, the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union today expressed its resentment against the Angami Public Organization “for disturbing” the Naga Students' Federation 12-hour bandh, called in Kohima town. The protest was called against the state government failure to heed to the students’ demand over corruption in the Nagaland Public Service Commission. The DNSU repeated in a note today that the bandh was called for the welfare of the younger generation and the students’ community in tackling the menace of corruption.

The DNSU acknowledged the standing resolution of the Angami Public Organization in Kohima town. But, the Dimapur students wondered, “How they remain elusive, when the federation is taking all effort in tackling all sort of corruption and mal practices in our Naga society.”

The Dimapur students have made an appeal to every section of the Nagas to support the Naga Students' Federation’s cause to bring justice. Here, the DNSU made clear to all that it shall continue to stand “tall” against all odds.

The DNSU assured its unflinching support to the Naga Students' Federation in its fight against corruption and money power in every sphere of its activities. The state government is also asked to ‘accede’ to the demand of the Naga students “to avoid more anomalies and confusion in our society.”

In similar expression of discontent, the Kyong Students’ Union (erstwhile Lotha) aired its resentment against what it termed the unfortunate and immature treatment” shown to the union’s volunteers on the day of the NSF bandh in Kohima. The Kyong students said it is astounded at the motives of the APO. The APO volunteers even went so far as to seize the badges of the NSF’s volunteers’ worn during the bandh, the KSU stated. The KSU issued a press note today from its executives.  The Kyong students have called out to all the Nagas to be active in movements that seek to correct corrupt systems, including the developments in the NPSC. The future of the students are at stake due to the corruption, the KSU reminded. The KSU made clear its total support to the NSF and also called upon all the federating units to support the quest for justice.
