DNSU surprise checking on students bunking classes

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 8 (MExN): Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) on Wednesday conducted surprise checking and detained around 19 students including girls who bunked classes and were loitering in market places in uniforms, some spending time in places such as play stations, cafes, booze joints etc. 

DNSU volunteers also seized alcohol and various tobacco products from the possession of some of the students studying between Class VII – XII from different schools. Parents and guardians of the defaulting students were called to DNSU office and were released only after signing an undertaking that the student will not repeat the act. If found indulging in similar acts, the DNSU would approach the institution for expulsion of the student who will not be readmitted in any other school within the jurisdiction of DNSU, it was agreed. 

Addressing media persons, DNSU president, Mhachio said that the Union had been receiving numerous complaints about students bunking classes and loitering in town and other places which will prove detrimental to their own careers. Basing on such complaints, he said, the DNSU along with its constituent units conducted the surprise checking. He said the objective of the Union is to work for the welfare and interest of the students and to keep the society suitable and pleasant to live in.

Mhachio also appealed all restaurants, lounges etc not to entertain students below the age of 18 years at any time of the day. 

DNSU general secretary, Kambuiga Rongmei said the surprise checking was not the end but the beginning and warned that stern action would be initiated against defaulting students. He appealed institutions to maintain strict rules and see that students behave properly in school and show decency respecting their school uniforms. 

DNSU education and statistical secretary, I. James Pame sought the cooperation of the parents, schools, police and district administration in its effort to work for the welfare of the students.
