Do not forget your roots

It’s a phrase that we have heard so many times, we ideally state it in times when we either need to remind ourselves to be humble or to remind someone who might be riding on cloud 9.

That being said, Kudos to NSF for remembering it and opposing the imposition of the Indian National Song(i hope you do follow up and ensure it is not enforced), Kudo’s to those students from Lumami who remained seated (every Naga has the right to do so), Kudos to those MLA like MLA Kikon, Dr Rhutso and the rest who objected to the singing/playing of an alien song in the NLA.

Forget about the religious POV, one can stand out of respect but to Enforce it especially on the Naga's? They are barking at the wrong tree. Personally, there is nothing against India in General but the fact that we have a history with India which is yet to be resolved (mostly due to reasons from within), it is still not an excuse for us to forget our history, our roots and the sacrifices of our forefathers.

In the words of Dr Rhutso as shared in the NLA session” to preserve and to protect the tradition, the culture and the beliefs of the Naga’s rest on the shoulder of each and every honorable member”.

To those who defended it during the NLA session or outside of NLA ”who are you to go against the will of the people? Who are you to sell our right, our history?”

When this order was imposed by MHA it should have been ignored or opposed from the first-place judging by the history we have, is ART 371 (A) a joke? As Advisor Hekani Jakhalu mentioned in her press statement ”The general opinion not just of the members but of the people is we are against it”. Thats the end of the story. Unlike the Minister for Tourism and Hr. Education Temjen Imna Along who was giving a lecture of the history of the song.

Be wary of enemies but be even more wary of those from within, as an elected representative, personal opinions are out of the window, whether one used money or won the election truthfully, the elected representative become the voice of the General mass. The office is not for pursuing personal ambition.

There are those among us in the elected seat who is willing to sell our history for their personal ambition, forgetting where their roots are and willing to trade the sacrifices made by our people for mere favors. It is quite visible from their antics regardless of the persona they create. Unfortunately for them, we are not running around hunting heads, are we? We have progressed, so have our ability to see through their god forsaken agenda.

Regardless of whether you are an Angami, Ao, Sema, Sangtam, Chakhesang, Konyak, Lotha, Phom, Phocury etc if your elected representative is selling out our people, our rights do not keep mum, do not entertain them “Just” because he/she is from your tribe. Casting them out of their position becomes the priority for they forgot their roots.

“YOU & I” belong to a tribe that collectively with the rest of the tribes are called “NAGA’s” and known so to the rest of the world. We have our own history, our aspiration and most importantly our own Identity.

And our story and history are yet to be told. Do not forget our roots.

God Bless Nagaland and God Bless the Naga’s Land.
