Do the right thing in the right way

In the interest of general public of Mon district, I would like to highlight the grievances of general public created by a haphazard development. To promote the cause of undeveloped district and most backward areas of the State, the Government has introduced a new scheme called RSVY, which is already under operation? Extension of Mon Town roads are also going on under this scheme. But, in doing so, why cause/create unnecessary trouble harassment to the public. Almost all the roads   became full of mud and water like irrigation. The bad roads condition adversely affected many office and school goers besides other going to their places of work. Only the vehicles having special gear (4x4) can ply in these roads.

Further, Telephone cables and water supply pipelines in many wards were damaged. Due to non availability of spare parts in the PHED departmental store, the respective consumers of the colony had to contribute fund amongst themselves for purchase of necessary repair parts. The Officer-In-Charge  of BSNL, the Junior Telecom Officer who went down to Dimapur on 3rd April, 2006 to get necessary parts for restoration of effected Telephone cable, is yet to report back to Mon. Besides, the Doordarshan Sub-Station Mon remains dull and indolent since many months back owing to non-posting of Technical staff. Thus, the Public of Mon town rely on Cable Network.

Since rainy season has already set in, the condition of these roads in next few months will definitely turn from bad to worse and all economic activities will stand still. So, the Govt. and the Contractors should change the working system by stopping all new cutting works and start the construction of drainage and culverts in priority basis.

I am sure many (if not few) will agree that it is not proper to harass others in the name of doing something good at the expense of public welfare. Let’s do the right thing in the right way.

L. Takyong Konyak
General Secretary,
DCC (I) Mon.
