Do you support the idea of having an opposition-less government in Nagaland? Give Reasons

Some of those who voted YES had this to say:
•    I agree because it shows the unity of our uniqueness to the world.

•    Because the leaders can work together diligently in bringing various changes in Nagaland and not going against each other's opinion or stop being rival.

•    For Naga Nation, yes.

Some of those who voted NO had this to say:
•    Without opposition, it is similar to monarchy.

•    Even with opposition party in the State, we can't do anything to the ruling party in their negligence. So if there is no opposition party our leaders will act as a dictatorship. But if the leaders will not be from the present government then it will be different story.

•    That means if they are in opposition they are not supporting the Naga cause, and if they are on the ruling side they are supporting. Opposition-less government has nothing to do with the Naga Talks.

•    No. India is a democratic country and a state without opposition will be meaningless. What is going on with the government today? Are we all becoming senseless?

•    No. Naga politicians without principle.

•    If we say/consider our own state as a democratic nation “check and balances” should be maintained. Where there's a strong opposition in any state/country we see development. So I would rather say a very big fat ‘no.’

•    Naga Political leaders seem to be friendly and so polite to their fellow ministers, that they have made a decision to become as one! Birds with same feathers, flocking together... It has become a socialistic government, and not a democratic one! Let’s see how the people will get to know sooner or later. Opposed to this idea.

•    No, an opposition-less Government in a real democratic form of Government is nothing short of a farce.

•    With or without, no differences at all.

•    Do you like tea without sugar?

•    What is the use of having washing machine without electricity? So, I don't support it.

•    It's only money that they're after on the pretext of national cause. We're all ready to flow in the direction in which money flows, forgetting all other principles etc.

•    There is no meaning of democracy.

•    The government will be weakened more.

•    Precisely, we actually need opposition-less society in Nagaland at all levels. The mere opposition-less government probably will not benefit Naga people. It's a kind of doing the last things first.

•    There is already huge corruption in Nagaland. So if there is no opposition then it might even get worse.

•    Opposition is a must for any democratic government to keep a check on the government's autocratic nature.

•    Opposition-less government is for looting and stealing together.

•    Disadvantages of Opposition-less Government: 1. No Progress No developments; 2. Corrupt Government; 3. State will never prosper; 4. Common person will face hardship in every 4 corners; 5. It will become like dictatorship rule; 6. Nagaland will end up like North Korea.

•    Because it will only add to the corruption in an already corrupted system like Nagaland.

•    Opposition-less Government means Voice-less Government against unlimited corruptions.

•    No. This is not the first time that a group of opposition legislators has decided to join the treasury bench in Nagaland. It is nothing more than a publicity stunt. Why can’t the legislators respect the mandate of the people and stay as opposition. Their time will come when they are elected to power.

•    Because in a government without opposition, the voice of the people will be lost.

•    There has to be an opposition for quality governance no matter what parties are.

•    No. When there is less opposition, the government Itself becomes totalitarian where they will have absolute authority whatever they implement no one will be there for a an objection towards the government when there is strong and effective opposition in large they keep in check every move of the government.

•    Hopeless Government! What kind of behavior is this? No opposition in a democratic government? Maybe, not a single social worker is after the welfare of the society but only for personal gains i.e. money. It is a sign of stupidity joining hands with the ruling party to have a share in those excess and all little things made available to the Nagas. Slowly our Naga society is going to perish because of political issues. Even today we Nagas are rapidly ruining our reputation for the sake of material gains. Those aspiring young political leaders needs to put up their heads to overthrow the old forever young leaders because the millennial are already in its prime .Needs to overthrow the old age from supreme head. Nagas need a change.

•    Citizen may get surprise for achieving opposition-less government but leadership crises will be there. No support. No chance to happen like NPF regime opposition-less in the state again. Even if it happens opposition-less /NUG, there will be no changes unless there are new baby.

•    It happens only in Nagaland!

Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:
•    If New Delhi's Assembly election over the years is anything to go by, the people are the ultimate authority on deciding on electing leaders with almost total majority or a good majority to a party for furthering their societal needs. Opposition or no opposition is an electoral mandate and not the assembly's mandate and if the people will that the latter or former is needed, then that needs to be adhered to and not on the whims of the elected. The current elected assembly is not a single party government but a Coalition government which also had an opposition party with a good number until recently. The election for the government was not meant for political picketing of a Naga solution for but for the welfare of the people of the state that voted for them through a democratic process whilst the dialogue on Naga solution persists with the various stakeholders on a different platform. If we are to have again another opposition government, it is better to dissolve the state legislature rather than the time and again chest thumping dialogue ‘Naga Solution Karni aseh Koa (Arobi ekbar try kurisabo koa)’ Beating the drum again and again while expecting a guitar tune has become a sort of our leader’s forte when their private aspirations are not met while still being an elected public leader. Sacrificing governance in an elected government with an opposition was at least noticeable but what awaits now is further “Sacrifice, Sacrifice, Sacrifice, the victory of the Bigots”.

•    Opportunist legislators, where there is money there is their way.

•    No difference, with opposition or without opposition it is the same.

•    Some other important question should have taken the space in ME paper. Nobody supports an opposition- less government.

•    Kya Farak Padta Hai!?! The less Nagas deals with politics, the more progress Nagas will make!!! Just quit visiting the politicians already. Look after your kitchen garden, grow your own food, and cook in your own kitchen.

•    Just as friction is a necessary evil strong opposition in a political domain is a must.

•    It's like Ferrari with no brakes.

•    It will go down.

•    Do I support the idea of having fascism? Well, if our leaders are taking inspiration from the central government then what can I say? If this continues then the moment I say anything against the government I will be locked up.

•    In Nagaland nothing works.

•    A stab in the back to all the voters.

•    A Democracy without opposition is like patriarchal society, without women rights.

•    Why do you even ask the question and the reason! You already know the consequences and the outcome.

•    No opposition means complete diminishing of correction. It is like a child with no parents to correct his or her mistakes.

•    You know back in college, I was taught, “Democracy can only be measured on the existence of an opposition.”

•    Checks and balances is one of the essences of democracy, without which the faith of our nation to truly walk in the principles of democracy will be at stake.

•    Even with opposition we don’t see much bullet point questions with strong LOP moves during assembly, just imagine without Opposition.

•    Strong opposition that strikes the government with eloquent critical objection keeping in check of the government movement and hold them accountable to the public. Being transparent to what is truth and wrong about the ruling dominant government. Having an effective string opposition can help the dominant government to rectify their mistakes but in Nagaland it's seems everything is kushi mushi types. No one wants to listen to one another. Everyone wants to be head... Less opposition will never be good enough to keep in check of the ruling government.

•    Well educated person will not say YES.

•    In a democracy the legislative body without opposition is dictatorship.

•    This could be an important step taken after much internal discussions within the parties. There is chaos all over the world. In the Lord Jesus Christ alone all need to be united. But public must remain alert, watchful and react reasonably.
