Doctors association comes into being

Dimapur, April 8 (MExN): After the recent amalgamation of the Health Services and Medical Services into a single Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, the members of the Nagaland Medical Graduate Association ( NMGA) and Nagaland In-Service Specialist Association ( NISDA) has decided to dissolve their respective associations and form a single Association called “ The Nagaland In-Service Doctors’ Association” ( NIDA ).

A press release received here from the newly formed NIDA, while informing about the formation of the NIDA, stated that the Association would like to ensure proper health service delivery to the rural poor by strengthening the hands of the government while implementing the health services rules and at the same time stated that the Association will be pro-active to Government for timely completion of the on going projects in the department.

The release stated that the NIDA expresses its  gratitude to the present Government under the leadership of Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister of Nagaland for having a futuristic vision for the working doctors in particular and department in general by bringing amalgamation of department into Health and Family Welfare headed by Principal Director. The release also expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the Secretary Health and Family Welfare, Imkonglemba IAS, for his untiring effort, cooperation and understanding in bringing about the amalgamation and health Services Rules 2006 process accomplished.

The release stated that the NIDA do not appreciate the contradictory statement made by the Director General, NACO, Sujatha Rao ‘at an interview of a local daily where on one hand she praises the Project Director NSACS as “Good management experience” and on the other hand she repeatedly said “No we are not satisfied” and also comment on poor financial management’.

In this connection the release stated that the ‘unfortunate statement’ of the NACO Project Director has brought a lot of speculations in the minds of the people whether to bring in an IAS officer as Project Director and in the process delay in filling up the post which is hampering the programme activities. ‘The Association fails to understand that when all the Project Directors of North Eastern States are manned by Medical Doctors, why Nagaland is single out to have an IAS officer as Project Director?’ the NIDA wondered and questioned.

In this respect, the NIDA requested the state government to appoint ‘a senior eligible doctor to the post without any further delay so as to carry out the programme activities and achieve the programme objectives in time’.

The release further stated that the NIDA has selected some members as adhoc executive members; Dr. Khanlo Magh as President, Dr. Imotemsu as vice present, Dr. Vizolie Suokhrie as general secretary, Dr. Watikala as secretary, Dr. Kevichusa Medikhru as treasurer, and members, Dr. Neikietuo Ciesotsu, Dr. Limaakum Jamir, Dr. N.Meren
