DoLR ‘immensely’ contributing towards upliftment of economy, says DC Wokha

Wokha, September 24 (MExN): The Department of Land Resource, Wokha conducted culmination programme of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana- Watershed Development Component (PMKSY-WDC), the erstwhile Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) VII, VIII, IX, X, XI under Batch IV, V & VI sponsored by the Department of Land Resources (DoLR), Ministry of Rural Development government of India.

Culmination programme included five projects under PMKSY-WDC covering 44 villages and 45 micro-watersheds, stated a DIPR report. 

Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Orenthung Lotha, who was the special guest, said that the DoLR is one of the most performing departments in the district, and is immensely contributing towards the upliftment of the general public on its economy. On behalf of the people of the district, Orenthung thanked the department for playing proactive role which will ultimately up-lift the economy of the rural people to high level in the days to come. He urged the WDC members from different villages who had come to attend the programme to play a proactive role as the successful implementation of the particular schemes largely depend on them. 

District Project Officer, Wokha, Tepunol Yore, while highlighting on IWMP said, within the advent of the new generation IWMP, he has expressed his optimism that the Department will continue and strive hard to achieve greater heights, keeping in mind, the works being well achieved in other programmes like RKVY, Spring-shed and  NAFCC. During the course of 5 years project plan many community assets were created and also plantations of various groups were achieved, under entry point activity a total of 45 different structures were created such as resting shed (15), water reservoirs tanks (22), community hall (2), public toilet (1), project road extensions (3) villages and an approach road foot step were constructed in one village.

He said, despite the COVID-19 lockdown, the department has done tremendous job to uplift the economy status of the district by taking up various schemes and added that the district has witnessed economic progress of 2020 through Rubber tapping, the district has yielded 31.54lakhs Kgs from 66 villages covering 1013 household with a turnover of Rs.37.84 crores, besides huge earning from other crops like Tea, Arecanut, Coffee and parkia, besides other horticulture crops.

DPO also said that during the pandemic the Department has handed over rubber roller machines, coffee pulping machines, Arecanut leaf plate making machine which the department is expecting will definitely increase in uplift the economy of the people in the near future. 

Project Officer said that the district has currently achieved the total plantation area of 1586 hectare, under rubber plantation 428. Ha of Areca plantation, 414.Ha of coffee plantation and 29 Ha of Tea plantation and he is expecting to earn a total of Rs 115.64 crores per year.

During the programme short speech was delivered by the Watershed Committee from different villages. Altogether, 44 villages Watershed Committee Chairman, Secretary and Committee members under Wokha District attended the programme held at Youth Centre DBHSS on September 24.
