DIMAPUR, APRIL 5 (MExN): Remarking on the ‘Office of profit’ issue, Minister for Planning and Coordination Dr Shürhozelie, who is also President of the Nagaland People’s Front, today advised all concerned to refrain from attacking each other “as such confrontation will not lead the Nagas anywhere.”
Commenting that of late many have become legal experts, tendering varied interpretations on the issue, Shürhozelie said, “At this juncture, any form of assertion or contention by any quarter will not help solve the problem as the matter lies with the Election Commission of India.”
“All throughout, the DAN Government has been giving its full effort to safeguard and strengthen the fabric of Democracy and people should not worry about the fate of Democracy in Nagaland,” he said in a release.
For the first time in the history of the Nagaland, the government has given due recognition to the Office of the Leader of Opposition by providing him all facilities, he said. “Contrary to our initiatives for the Leader of Opposition, they (NPCC) are well aware what type of treatment they had meted out to the Opposition when the Congress was at the helm of power.”
The people are well aware that the Nagaland State Legislature members (Removal of disqualification) Act, 1964, in its Schedule list, made no mention about protections extended to the Leader of Opposition, he said and added that the DAN Government initiated for incorporating such protective provisions in the Schedule which also require introduction of an amendment bill in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. “But unfortunately this is yet to be done.”
Citing the recent developments on the ‘Office of profit’ issue, the NPF President made a call to all to stop assailing each other.
