Don’t test the public – AYO to UGs

Dimapur, February 17 (MExN): In the backdrop of yet another killing between the underground groups, and injury of another civilian today in Kohima, the Angami Youth Organization (AYO) today sharply cautioned the Naga underground groups that they must stop testing the patience of the Naga public. Calling today’s violence an ‘insult and a direct challenge’ to the Angami public, an incensed AYO took note that the groups are “hell-bent on creating tensions” in spite of unending appeals from the people.

In a statement issued to the Media today, the Angami youth frontal organization has directed its members to be “prepared” to tackle any “antisocial” elements. The AYO reacted sharply condemning the shooting in Kohima today in which one person was killed and another civilian was injured.

“It appears that some people are hell-bent on creating tension in the society, particularly when people are in festive mood. Today’s incident is also an act of utter disregard to the voice of the people and insult to calls for peace and reconciliation,” the AYO stated in its statement.

“The AYO also views this incident as an insult and indirect challenge to the Angami people when the whole tribe is engaged in the Wrestling Meet which is also a part of the Sekrenyi celebration. The AYO once again appeals to the different groups to desist from such incidents and also not to test the tolerance of the public.”

The AYO has urged all right-thinking Nagas not to remain silent spectators in the backdrop of such continuous violence against which society and public alike have been appealing time and again to the armed groups to desist from.

“The AYO also informs all its members to be vigilant and be prepared to tackle antisocial elements in the society,” the AYO stated.
