Dimapur, July 23 (MExN): It is reported that on July 21 a group of drunken youths led by two persons identified as Wochamo Ngullie and P Mhonjan Humtsoe, who were also members of the Doyang Land Owners Union reportedly went on a rampage. The rampaging group ransacked the Doyang Hyrdo Project head office, Doyang under Wokha causing much damage to the building.
Information recieved said that many doors, steel and wooden furniture, grills, telephone and electrical wires and window panes were completely damaged by the vandals. The youths, informed to be “heavily drunk” numbered around twenty five and were led by the two aforementioned persons, Ngullie and Humtsoe. They ransacked the DHEP head office after forcing their way through the main security gate of the Central Industrial Security Force.
According to a report from the Doyang Land Owners’ Union, while the number of CISF personnel on duty was inadequate, the timely intervention of the District administration led by SDO ( C ), Superintendent of Police and OC Wokha prevented further damage and put the situation under control.
Meanwhile, the land Owners’ Union of Doyang, Wokha held an emergency meeting of the LOU/DHEP office bearers on July 23 in the Guest House of DHEP/NEEPCO. The union out-rightly condemned the incident which the union stated was due to vested interests and that it is totally against the goodwill of the people of the district and the union in particular. The union expressed its deepest regret over the incident stating that it has created an atmosphere of insecurity as well as caused mental and physical inconveniences for the project staffers.
The LOU Doyang also expressed its appreciation to the district administration and the police for their timely intervention into the incident and to this, assured its fullest co-operation. The union also informed that it has formed a group of volunteers as well as reconstituted the Advisory Board. It was resolved that the membership of Wochamo Ngullie and P Mhonjan Humtsoe, following the July 21 incident, has been kept in abeyance till further decisions by the LOUD.
