Doyang Strikers Mokokchung cruised into the final of the 27th Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) Trophy 2025, defeating Super Seniors FC with a commanding 4–0 victory in the first semifinal played on Wednesday at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
The Strikers, who began the match on the back foot, were briefly unsettled by the experienced Super Seniors in the opening minutes. The veterans pressed high and kept Doyang’s midfield under pressure, with Tzupong leading the charge and goalkeeper Nungsangyanger making a fine early save to deny Toka Achumi’s long-range free kick.
For nearly twenty minutes, Doyang struggled to find their rhythm as the Super Seniors stayed compact and disciplined at the back. But the breakthrough came once Doyang’s midfield began to settle, with Yami, Somon, and Toka controlling the tempo and linking up effectively with the attacking trio of Horam, Yhoto Lohe, and Ganghui.
The opening goal arrived in the 34th minute, when Horam, capitalizing on a defensive lapse, fired home to put Doyang ahead. Four minutes later, Yhoto Lohe doubled the advantage with a well-timed run and calm finish, giving Doyang a 2–0 lead at halftime.
The second half saw Doyang fully take charge of the game. Their composure in possession and fluid movement proved too much for the Super Seniors to contain. In the 57th minute, Lohe found the back of the net again to complete his brace, and just a minute later, Ganghui added the fourth with a swift strike from close range.
Despite a spirited early display, the Super Seniors were outpaced as the match wore on. Their few second-half opportunities went unconverted, while Doyang maintained control until the final whistle.
With this win, Doyang Strikers Mokokchung advanced to the MDFA Trophy 2025 final, continuing their remarkable run of form and solidifying their reputation as one of the tournament’s most balanced sides — tactically sound, composed in midfield, and clinical in attack.
They now await the winner of Thursday’s semifinal between Telongjem FC and Chargers FC, which will decide their opponent in the grand finale.
