DPRO Mon organises Carrom Championship

Mon, October 17 (MExN): The Office of the District Public Relations Officer (DPRO), Mon, organised the first-ever Carrom Championship 2025 on October 17 at the DPRO Office, Mon. The tournament featured both Singles and Doubles categories, aimed at fostering team spirit and promoting a healthy relationship among colleagues across the information centres and APRO offices in the district.

Welcoming the participants, Information Assistant Mon, M Pelih, thanked the DPRO Mon for taking the initiative to organise the tournament. She said that organising such an event was “not just about playing a game, but about bringing people together, building team spirit, and promoting healthy interaction among colleagues and friends spread across the district.”

“This event reflects the spirit of unity and cooperation that the IPR department upholds in Mon,” she added.

Pelih highlighted the significance of sports and recreation in daily professional life, saying that even simple indoor games like carrom “play a vital role in our professional and personal lives.” She observed that while engaged in office duties and public service, officials often forget the importance of relaxation and mental refreshment.

“Carrom, though a small indoor game, teaches us valuable lessons of patience, strategy, focus, and coordination. It reminds us that success comes not only from strength but also from precision, calmness, and teamwork,” she said. The tournament, she noted, was an opportunity to interact beyond work desks, to know each other better, and to build lasting friendships. “A healthy work environment is one where colleagues can share both responsibilities and laughter, and this tournament is a step in that direction,” she added.

She further expressed hope that the tournament would inspire officers and staff “not only in sports but in cultural and creative activities that nurture unity and motivation among all under the DPRO.” The event, she said, showcased the IPR department’s values of efficiency, well-being, and morale.

Encouraging participants to compete in the true spirit of sportsmanship, Pelih remarked, “Winning is wonderful, but what matters most is participation, enjoyment, and the spirit of togetherness,” before declaring the tournament open.

APRO Naginimora, John Congo Konyak, gave away the prizes to the winners. In the Singles category, Tholong Konyak and Moba Konyak, Assistant Operator Mon, secured the first and runner-up positions respectively. In Doubles, Tholong and Yokngeng took the first position, while Methang and Tansumong were the runners-up.

The programme was chaired by Information Assistant Chen, Tansumong, while Enyei Konyak, Operator Mon, invoked God’s presence. A special number was presented by office peon Daniel Konyak.
