DIMAPUR, JANUARY 27 (MExN): Ex-Chief Minister of Nagaland and former Governor of Goa and Maharashtra Dr SC Jamir has issued a press statement to clear the air about his role in the forthcoming Nagaland Assembly Elections slated for February 23, 2013. Jamir in a signed note informed that Sonia Gandhi, the President of the AICC had asked him not to take part in the forthcoming elections. According to Jamir’s press note, Sonia Gandhi wanted him to play a more “effective role in the party and the State”. “Hence I will be more visible in the electioneering at all important places,” Jamir stated.
Stating that many people in different parts of Nagaland had been confused about his withdrawal from contesting the election from 26 Aonglenden Assembly Constituency, Jamir, also a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), explained that for the last more than six decades he had been in the service of the people in different capacities and even now he was actively involved in the politics of the State and the country. “As a veteran and disciplined Congress man, I have to abide by the decision of the Congress High Command,” stated Jamir while making it clear that he will not contest for the coming Assembly Elections slated for February 23, 2013.
