Dimapur, August 29 (MExN): Nagaland’s Dr Zavei Hiese was awarded the ‘Pratim Banerji Memorial Award- 2021’ for his Outstanding Service by the Society for Ethnopharmacology (SFE) at the 8th International Congress of Society for Ethnopharmacology, 2021. The award was handed over by the Chief Guest, Padma Vibhushan Hon Dr Raghunath Mashelkar, former Director General, Council of Scientific & Industrial research (CSIR), Government of India & former Secretary to Government of India.
The congress was held from August 27 to 29 at Pune and organized by Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed University), Poona College of Pharmacy and all Pharmacy Colleges in Pune along with SFE, according to a press release received here today.
Dr Raghunath Mashelkar said that progress and dissemination in the fields of medicine, herbs and pharmaceuticals would help boost confidence and make India truly self-sufficient in healthcare. Distinguished Guest Dr Bhushan Patwardhan (National Research Professor, AYUSH and Former Vice President, UGC) also said, “Indian researchers need to research, collect and preserve information on traditional medicine which has become the need of the present time,” in his keynote address, the release stated.
According to the release, the main objective of this conference was to promote and disseminate progress in the fields of traditional medicine, herbs and pharmaceuticals and translate it into product development. The conference mainly included research studies on Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy.
A total of 70 lectures on various aspects of medicinal plants and pharmacology were organized during the conference.
About 600 researchers from 25 countries, from various universities across globe participated in the conference through virtual media. Also, 400 research papers were presented using online mode, the release informed.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of Dr Manikrao Salunkhe (Vice Chancellor, Bharti Vidyapeeth), Dr CK Katiyar (Vice President, SFE), Dr. Indranil Das (Vice President, SFE), Dr Pulok Mukherjee (Secretary, SFE), Dr KR Mahadik (Chairperson, Organizing Committee, SFEC 2021), Dr L Satyanarayanan (Secretary, Local Organizing Committee, SFEC 2021), and Dr Atmaram Pawar(Principal, Poona College of Pharmacy), it added.
