
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 24 (MExN): The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dimapur has approved the pre-trial destruction of narcotic drugs in registered cases where the criteria under the NDPS Act, 1985, were fulfilled. According to a report from the Commissioner of Police, a total of 79 cases had been registered under the NDPS Act across nine police stations in the district.
The District Drug Disposal Committee, Dimapur, led by the Commissioner of Police and comprising the SP (Crime) and DCPs of Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland as members, conducted a physical verification of the seized narcotic substances. The inspection was carried out at the prosecuting inspector’s court office in Dimapur on December 4, 2024. Following the verification, the drugs were destroyed at the DMC dumping ground in Burma Camp. The process was overseen by the Commissioner of Police and representatives from the district administration of the three districts.
The destroyed narcotics included various substances with an approximate monetary value of Rs 34.82 crore. These comprised 9 kilograms and 741.15 grams of brown sugar, heroin, and shanflower; 16,537 SP capsules and Nitrosen tablets; 5 kilograms of crystal meth; 2 kilograms and 450 grams of opium; 17,269 bottles of cough syrup; 2,600 kilograms of opium straw; and 1,34,203 WY tablets and Simplex-E tablets.
