Seized narcotics worth approximately Rs 2.4 crore destroyed by incineration at the Excise Directorate Complex in Dimapur on February 24.
Dimapur, February 24 (MExN): Seized narcotics worth approximately Rs 2.4 crore were destroyed by incineration at the Excise Directorate Complex in Dimapur on February 24. The destruction was carried out under relevant Sections of the NDPS Act 1985 and Court Orders in the presence of the duly constituted Drugs Disposal Committee and senior officers of the Department, ensuring full transparency and adherence to legal procedures, official said in a press release.

The destroyed contraband consisted of 483 bottles of Codeine Cough Syrup, 1175 grams of Heroin, 201 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon and 42 tablets of Alzolam. These items were seizures made by the two enforcement wings based in Dimapur — District Excise and Narcotic Cell.
The destruction process was carried out through approved incineration methods at the authorised facility, following environmental and safety guidelines prescribed by the Nagaland Pollution Control Board, it stated.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional Commissioner of Excise S Chanlei Angh commended the Excise Enforcement personnel for their commendable efforts in curbing the illegal drug activities despite clear shortage of manpower, lack of technical support and surveillance equipment.
The department reiterated its firm resolve to take stringent action against those involved in the illegal drug trade.
One held with Rs 12.5 lakh opium powder from petrol pump
In a related development, the Narcotic Cell duty party seized suspected Opium powder (Brown Sugar) weighing approximately 250 grams, valued at Rs 12.5 lakh, on February 19 from a petrol pump near DDSC Stadium, Dimapur.
One accused was arrested for alleged illegal trafficking of the contraband.

The case is now under active investigation and the accused is under judicial custody awaiting FSL Test report, it stated.
The department has urged members of the public to cooperate with the Department by providing credible information related to drug trafficking and abuse. “Informers are protected under applicable law and personal identity will not be disclosed to any third party providing information in this matter.”
