Longleng, August 31 (MExN): The District Task Force on Immunization (DTFI) and the District Task Force on Malaria Elimination (DTFME) for Longleng district held their meetings on August 29 at the DPDB Hall under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner. The meetings brought together officials from the Department of Health & Family Welfare, representatives of line departments, NGOs, and community organizations.

The DTFI meeting began with a review of the minutes from the earlier meeting held on June 11, 2025. Dr. Imtijungshi Aier, District Programme Officer (RCH/UIP), presented a PowerPoint presentation on the district’s immunization performance for the period August 2024 – July 2025.

The District Immunization Officer (DIO) informed that Special Vaccination Drives would be conducted from September 2025, with a focus on urban areas to achieve the goal of Measles Rubella Elimination by 2026.

During the deliberations, the President of the Phom People Council stressed that the action plan for the special vaccination drive should be shared with all churches in Longleng town and with the Ward Chairmen.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the Health Department to propose the creation of a new urban Sub Centre (SC) under Longleng town in the upcoming DPDB meeting to improve healthcare outreach and delivery. He further stated that once the action plan for the special immunization drive was finalized, it should be shared with the district administration for necessary support and facilitation.

Appealing to all stakeholders, the Deputy Commissioner said that motivating and mobilizing the community on the importance of vaccination was crucial. “No child in the district should be left behind,” he stated, adding that collective action and cooperation were vital to achieving full immunization coverage and protecting children’s health.

The DTF on Malaria Elimination also convened at the DPDB Hall under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner. Welcoming the committee members, he reiterated the importance of strengthening malaria elimination measures.

The District Vector Borne Officer (DVBO) presented a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the activities carried out by the NVBDCP Longleng. Members deliberated on measures to bolster malaria elimination in the district.

Key points discussed included creating greater awareness on the proper use of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLIN), promoting source reduction activities such as timely disposal of stagnant water and ensuring clean surroundings, exploring the construction of hatcheries for larvivorous fish to control mosquito breeding, and intensifying public awareness campaigns to prevent water stagnation in localities.
