DUCCF urges govt to release salaries of RMSA 2016 teachers

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 29 (MExN): The Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Forum (DUCCF) has urged the Nagaland government to address the demands of the 2016 batch of teachers under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) and release their pending salaries in compliance with judicial orders.

In a statement, DUCCF said withholding salaries of the RMSA 2016 teachers despite the Gauhati High Court’s Kohima Bench order dated March 16, 2022, and its subsequent upholding by the Supreme Court on May 20, 2025, amounts to contempt of court.

Calling the move “an insult to the dignity, labour and dedication” of the teachers, the forum warned that forcing them into a pen-down strike was adversely affecting 133 government schools and jeopardising the academic progress of thousands of students.

It maintained that a welfare government must ensure fair compensation to employees engaged in official duties and pointed out that “an employee engaged for the same work cannot be paid less than another who performs the same duties and responsibilities.” The forum described the present situation as “oppressive, suppressive and coercive.”

Stating that the long-standing issue has already been legally resolved, DUCCF appealed to the state government to implement the court’s directives in toto to uphold the judiciary’s authority and end the “injustice” faced by the teachers.
