As efforts continue to extinguish the wildfire in Dzükou Valley, authorities said on Saturday that the blaze has been largely contained. It was informed that 150 personnel from government agencies and local authorities will be deployed on February 1 (Sunday) for manual fire fighting operations.

In an update, Deputy Commissioner, Kohima informed The Morung Express that the fire that was concentrated near the Dzükou helipad has largely been contained after IAF bambi-bucket sorties have been splashed into those areas.

According to the ground report, IAF bambi-bucket operations have deployed several sorties to douse the fire. Fire around the Dzükou helipad has been contained, and the main Dzükou valley appears largely free of the fire threat. However, flames remain visible around the Dzükou base camp.

The DC Kohima also informed that his team has visited the entry point to Dzükou Valley at Viswema village on Saturday to assess ongoing fire fighting operations and held discussions with the Surveillance Team.

To intensify the counter and extinguish the blaze, 150 personnel from SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, Forest, Police, Dobashis, drone operators, and Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) volunteers will undertake manual fire fighting operations on February 1.

The IAF will continue its bambi-bucket operations, it was informed.
