Kohima, July 14 (MExN): Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer (DEO), Kohima, B Henok Buchem, NCS, has urged supervisors undergoing training for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll to thoroughly understand the Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines and procedures to ensure an error-free and credible revision process.
Addressing a training programme at the DC's Conference Hall on Tuesday, Buchem said the primary objective of the SIR exercise is to include all eligible voters and remove ineligible persons from the electoral roll, according to a DIPR report.
He cautioned that the ECI closely monitors the revision exercise for lapses and stressed the need for officials to strictly adhere to the prescribed rules and procedures.
Highlighting the role of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) and Supervisors as future master trainers for Booth Level Officers (BLOs), the DEO said they should have a clear understanding of every aspect of the revision process, as they would also interact with political parties, civil society organisations, community leaders and the public.
Buchem urged the officials to keep the relevant provisions, instructions and frequently asked questions "at their fingertips" so they could confidently respond to queries during the exercise.
According to the DIPR report, training programmes are being conducted for EROs, AEROs, Supervisors and BLOs to familiarise them with the guidelines, procedures and documentation required for the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral roll.
