Kohima, June 8 (MExN): Entrepreneurs Associates (EA) conducted training for women vendors at Kiding Village, Tuensang on June 7. A total of 140 women from 11 villages namely, Kiding, Tsadang, Tsadang D New Village, Chimonger, Anganba, Phirii Ahi, Tronger, Mangakhi, Chare – New, Tsarü and Alisophor, attended the training aimed at connecting and empowering them, as a part of EA’s initiative – ‘Uplifting Women Street Vendors’ with support from Capri Foundation.
Addressing the women, EA CEO Neichute Doulo, encouraged the women to take their business seriously and pride themselves for their contribution to the rural economy. Stressing on the need to save regularly and consistently, so that their businesses can grow in the years to come, he urged them to practice honesty while delivering quality service to their customers while emphasizing the need for ethical business at any level of work. Touching upon a significant subject in rural entrepreneurship, given the fact that most of the women vendors themselves are cultivators too, Neichute educated them to focus on products that are of higher economic value while at the same time not too bulky for transportation.
EA CEO also highlighted the huge potential for growth in the rural agri-business and motivated the women to take advantage of the opportunity. Entrepreneurs Associates corporate manager, Shiroi Lily Shaiza also spoke to the gathering and shared about the organization and its vision of empowering people through entrepreneurship in all places of its outreach.
Focusing on the need to empower the women who are the “Guardians of our Local economy”, she said that it is imperative that the women vendors progress, thereby positively impacting their communities.
Chaired by Yutho Sangtam, Administrative Coordinator EA, the training at Tuensang is the 12th wave of the project for women street vendors.
The EA team also distributed free rain coats to the women to enable to work comfortable during the monsoon season.
Prior to this program, EA has already trained 1300 women vendors, by conducting similar trainings in Mokokchung, Dimapur, Wokha, Phek Town, Kohima and Pfutsero Town. Many of these women are already on the road to economic empowerment through regular savings and financial planning; being regularly financed and mentored by the organization. Besides this, EA has also been providing market linkages to these women through its networks increasing the incomes of women vendors and their families. EA endeavors to reach out to more women vendors in Nagaland and other states of the North East.
