DIMAPUR, APRIL 14 (MExN): The Department of History, Eastern Christian College, Dimapur hosted a one-day workshop aimed at introducing the students to archaeology and the significance of pottery in this field. 

A press release received here stated that Dr Aokumla Walling, Assistant Professor, Department of History and Archaeology, Nagaland University, Meriema Campus, Kohima presented a comprehensive overview of archaeology as a discipline and delved into the various archaeological methodologies, excavation techniques and the importance of oral traditions. 

Dr R Chumbeno Ngullie, Assistant Professor, Department of History and Archaeology, Nagaland University, Meriema Campus, who is an expert in pottery analysis, elucidated the pivotal role of pottery in archaeological research.

Through engaging discussions and practical demonstrations, students learned how pottery can unveil invaluable information about our ancient societies. The workshop also featured hands-on activities allowing the students to examine authentic pottery fragments and learn basic identification techniques. 

Earlier, the workshop was chaired by Busongna, Assistant Professor, Department of History; invocation by Jatpho, Department of history followed by welcome speech addressed by Mharoni Yanthan, HoD, History. It ended with a vote of thanks by David, Assistant Professor, Department of History.
