May 10 re-poll at 3 polling stations in Nagaland
Kohima, May 7 (MExN): The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Nagaland, to conduct fresh polls (to the lone Nagaland parliamentary seat) in 33/2 Akhakhu and 33/25 Naltoqa polling stations under 33-Suruhoto (ST) Assembly Constituency. On the basis of available reports and after taking all material circumstances into account, the ECI declared the polls held at the said stations to be “void” and appointed May 10 (Saturday) as the date and fixed the hours for the re-polling from 7:00am to 4:00pm.

The ECI has, similarly, declared the “adjourned poll” at 49-Tamlu (ST) Assembly Constituency under 1-Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency to be “void” and appointed May 10 (Saturday) as the date to conduct fresh polls “at some alternative place in nearby location that is not in dispute” from 7:00am to 4:00pm. The CEO, Nagaland, has been instructed by the ECI to “give wide publicity in polling area concerned” and also inform political parties and contesting candidates in writing. Further, the ECI clarified that “this will be an ad-hoc arrangement without prejudice to the respective claims of the two State Governments, in regard to the disputed border areas, which is presently sub-judice.”
The fresh polls at the said polling stations have been instructed to be conducted in accordance with the Commission’s instructions contained in Chapter-XIII of Hand Book for Returning Officers. The Commissioner and Returning Officer, Nagaland, and Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Returning Officer, Zunheboto and Longleng respectively, have been informed of the same by the CEO, Nagaland, Sentiyanger Imchen.
