Present economic condition in Nagaland
Nagaland is completely a hilly state with a population of nearly twenty lakh citizens. It has almost nil state revenue. Economy of the state is entirely dependent on Delhi. Dimapur sugar mill. Darogajan mechanized brick factory, Wajeho cement factory, Zubja (Sechu) hydro electric project and Jalukie Kandsari mill - all are closed due to mismanagement and rampant corruption. there is no visible improvement in agriculture sector and villages are still following the traditional way of cultivation and agricultural produces are not sufficient to feed twenty lakh population of the slate.
All most all essential things including food materials are purchased from outside the state and thus money coming from Delhi reaches back to Delhi via Guwahati and Kolkata. Nagaland remains penniless at the end or each financial year and Naga political leaders who boast in Kohima as Raja Saheb to their own people start knocking the door of Delhi lenders with new budget proposals. But the condition of sick industries and agriculture sectors remains the same.
Agriculture industry, business entrepreneurship and govt. jobs in other states are the main sectors which provide employment to youths. All these are in horrible conditions in the state of Nagaland and there are many factors responsible for this painful condition of the state and all these are linked with insurgency in the state. Today, brain-drain has started. No worthy person who wants to establish his own entrepreneurship wishes to do so in Nagaland because of terrorism in the state. This has resulted into unemployment of ninety thousand educated Naga youths who are joining this faction or that faction under compulsion, start doing anti-social deeds under the cover of particular faction and then get killed by security forces in encounter. And the net-gain is nil.
Today, there are some Naga People who are ready to sell even their most precious thing -the chastity and dignity, to anyone who can offer money. The church leaders who are supposed to be moralizers are also the victim of these evils. The vulgarities in many forms and westernization of society have led the Naga youths to indulge in lust and in many cases rape and murder. But the instigators, provocateurs and underground ‘’national’’ workers prefer to ignore and continue their business by harping on the issue of Greater Nagaland and its sovereignty whereas everybody knows that it is impossibility.
International Scenario
India and China are emerging as super powers not only in the field of nuclear arms but also in economy and if international expert analysts are correct, India will lead the world by 2020. This sign has started surfacing. America, U.K., France, Russia and China- the leading nations of the world, are in bee line to enter into business agreements with India.
In that case, I don’t find any wisdom in the demands of Greater Nagaland followed by Sovereignty with empty treasury and dishonest personnel’s. We should draw the lesson from Bhutan. Nepal, Tibet, Sri Lanka and East Timor etc. What is their locus-stand at international foray? Who cares about them? In fact, they have become colonies of powerful nations. America and U.K. were strong supporters of Naga demand of Sovereignty. Today, they will not do that which will displease Delhi. And here at home, NSCN (1M) has lost its credibility in external as well as internal affairs.
Jamir on solution of Naga problem
There arc several top ranking Naga leaders who subscribe the doctrine of S.C. Jamir pertaining to solution of Nags problem but except Jamir, others do not speak out openly due to fear of bullet of “national” workers. Jamir does so putting his own life vulnerable to bullets of such “national” workers.
And for that, his body was riddled with bullets in Nagaland House, Delhi and fourteen powerful bombs were exploded at his convoy in between Phiphema and Medziphema. But he still tells the fact, the reality, which will bring out Naga Society from the vexed problem. But “national” workers are not happy with him because in that case Naga problem will be solved once for all and insurgency will come to a halt. Though in that case Naga society will be benefited but today’s “national” workers will be deprived of their royal life for whom iusurgency has become a flourishing business.
National Scenario
Delhi has categorically stated that sovereignty is not negotiable. Atal BihariVajpayee followed by Dr. Manmohan Singh - former and present Prime Minister respectively have clearly stated more than once that integration of Naga inhabited areas is not possible without respective states agreeing for integration. This is also a clear denial in different form. In this way, when sovereignty is not possible what these “national” workers are fighting for? Konyaks and Khiamuingans are not prepared to join “Greater Nagaland.” How the portions from neighboring states can be merged when our own people are revolting. Read the article “Naga Piece Process” by Tali Longkumer. He is tortured by these “national” workers. Similarly there are thousands of Tali Longkumers who are tortured by the so -called “national” workers for the monetary gain; still the instigators and propagandist like P. Modoli and the likes do not hesitate to condemn the geniuses like S.C.Jamir who has sacrificed his life for the welfare of Naga Society.
