The East Dimapur Business Association (EDBA), including Naharbari, Darogapathar, Padumpukhuri and Purana Bazaar, has resolved to support the Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) Nagaland movement for ‘One Government, One Tax.’ The association resolved not to pay tax to any Naga Political Groups until they come together under one umbrella.

Business establishments under East Dimapur were closed on Wednesday in protest against numerous complaints of harassment and unabated taxation in the area. A public meeting was held at the DHO petro pump, where the said resolution was arrived at.

EDBA President, Solomon L Awomi, who chaired the meeting, informed that the NSCN (IM) has decided not to collect godown tax, trade license fees and also regretted the sale of calendars. In this regard, he expressed appreciation for this gesture.

ACAUT member, Joel Nillo Kath appealed to the business community not to pay tax to any of the Naga Polictical Groups unless they unite. He said that paying tax to the fragmented Naga Groups was an encouragement to factionalism. “Taxation is the cause of factionalism and factionalism is the cause of taxation,” he added.

He further asked the Naga Political Groups whether ACAUT Nagaland’s call for unity, reconciliation and streamlining taxation was anti-Naga. “Threatening ACAUT is like threatening all Nagas,” he asserted.

During the meeting, DCCI President, Hokivi Chishi; BAN executive members, Dr. Khekugha and Tia; EDBA advisor, Dr. Aotoshi and GBs of various colonies under East Dimapur also spoke, expressing support to the ACAUT Nagaland movement.
