A State level, national role play and folk dance competition was held today under the aegis of Adolescence Education Cell, SCERT at Government higher secondary school Kohima.
Minister School Education & SCERT Nyeiwang Konyak graced the inaugural function as the chief guest. Schools from Peren, Zunheboto, Longleng and Mon district took part in the role play competition while GHS Tening, GHSS Peren and GHS Heningkunglwa competed in folk dance competition.
Addressing the gathering the chief guest said national role play as a co-curricular activity is organized in the whole country under the co-ordination of National Population Education Project (NPEP), NCERT, New Delhi with the objective to provide opportunities for students to gain experimental learning for life skills development and apply those life skills, in real life situations, “Co-curricular activities such as role play are very crucial for ones’ all round development, mental, physical and in spiritual aspects of a person,” said Konyak. He added that folk dance is a common cultural form in the society which is an expression of joy and happiness, thereby organizing the competition is a historic under the aegis of NPEP, NCERT New Delhi, wherein, it aims to develop skills related to Adolescence Reproductive and sexual health by using their own folk culture as a medium.
Konyak urged to have a strong moral will to say “No” to any irresponsible behaviors as adolescence education is preprogrammed to do enough to ensure that each adolescent student in the state is empowered to face the challenges in the present world of complexities and stresses and expressed his gratitude as it has professionally trained councilor who can take up various challenges in the specialized and area of profession.
GHS Heningkunglwa Peren was declared as the winner in folk dance competition while GHS Tening Peren occupied second place. GHS Satakha, Zunheboto, emerged first position in Role play while GHS Jalukie, Peren, GHSS Mon secured second and third place respectively. The winners of the competition will participate in the Regional level to be held in the month of November. NBSE Secretary Nini Meru initiated prize distribution to the winners.
