The Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection (LMCP), Wokha, in collaboration with the Consumer Rights Organization Wokha, conducted a Consumer Awareness Programme on September 22 across four educational institutions: Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Mt Tiyi College Wokha; Witter Theological College Wokha; Springdale School Wokha; and Bethsaida School Wokha under the theme “Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection: The Journey towards Viksit Bharat – 2047.”

Delivering the keynote address, T. Aimong, Assistant Controller, LMCP Wokha, urged the business community to uphold ethical practices and honesty in trade. He called on youth, students, and civil society to become champions of consumer rights and stressed the importance of remaining vigilant, informed, and courageous in standing for fairness and justice.

Member of the District Consumer Redressal Forum, Wokha, Surenthung Enny, served as the resource person. He highlighted the six fundamental consumer rights, emphasising their role in empowering individuals and curbing unfair trade practices. He noted that informed consumers play a vital role in shaping a transparent and accountable marketplace.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Silo Jemu, Inspector, LMCP Wokha, who expressed gratitude to the participating institutions and stakeholders for their cooperation and support.

The initiative, according to the organisers, reflects a growing commitment to consumer education and protection. By engaging students in awareness campaigns, the department aims to nurture informed and responsible citizens who will contribute towards building a fairer and ethical society.
