DIMAPUR, JULY 21 (MExN): The Extension Education Institute - North East Region (EEI - NER), Assam Agricultural University (AAU) Jorhat in collaboration with State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Nagaland organised a training on “Organic Farming and Integrated Nutrient Management” from July 18 to 21 at SAMETI, Medziphema.
The training saw participation of officials from Department of Agriculture and ATMA functionaries from all districts of Nagaland. The main objective of the training was to impart training on simple and farmer friendly techniques of organic farming to the participants as per the requirements of the state.
The resource persons for the training program were Dr. A.K. Bhattacharya, Professor EEI, Assam Agriculture University (AAU), Jorhat and Dr. R. Baruah, Professor, Department of Soil Science (AAU) Jorhat.
The training programme covered both theoretical and practical sessions on Paramparagat Krishi Vikash Yojana (PKVY); Prospects of Organic Agriculture in NE states; Raising organic nursery and organic seed production; Production and application of biofertilizers as a component of organic farming; An overview on composting-its methods of preparation and application; Participatory Guarantee System in Organic Farming (PGS); Importance and cultivation technique of Azolla; Practical demonstration on Azolla; INM; Ways and means of organic standard in organic agriculture; Identification of potential areas for adoption of organic village and potential commodities; Crucial policies for successful implementation of organic village; Action points at all different levels.
The valedictory function was chaired by Vikaho Chophi, DPD SAMETI while feedback from the trainees was given by Sanuzo Nienu, Deputy Director, Department of Agriculture, Mon and Khyothungo Ezung, BTM (ATMA), Wokha.
In his speech, Course Director, Dr. A.K. Bhattacharya encouraged the trainees to impart the experience gained during the training sincerely to the clientele group- the farmers and hoped that the training programme enhance the knowledge of the officials. Lastly, he expressed his appreciation and gratitude to SAMETI Nagaland for extending cooperation and making the training program a success.
The programme concluded with distribution of certificates and vote of thanks by Tiajungla Longchar, DPD SAMETI.
