Elderly man allegedly kills 35-year-old youth by shooting in Manipur

A 35-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by his elderly neighbour with a license gun in Imphal West district of Manipur on Saturday.

The bizarre incident reportedly occurred at Chingamathak Ngakraba Leirak under Singjamei police station of Imphal West district around 10 am.

The victim was identified as Suraj Gurumayum (35), son of G Gope, while the alleged accused has been identified as Gurumayum Birchandra alias Molecule of the same locality with the deceased victim.

The deceased was a JTO (Junior Telecom Officer) of BSNL. He succumbed to bullet injuries at Raj Medicity hospital where he was rushed with critical injuries.

The victim has bullet injury marks on his hand and chest. Police quoting locals said that the bullet that hit the victim on his hand pierced and hit the chest again.

After shooting, accused Birchandra reportedly left his home in a Maruti van used as an ambulance. Police have launched a manhunt operation to arrest the accused who is at large till the time of filing this report.

 Birchandra, popularly known as Molecule, is a politician and had contested state Assembly elections and Lok Sabha elections many times with no winner at all.

Local sources recalled an incident of the accused attempting the life of the victim by hitting with a vehicle a few years ago.

The police are yet to establish the motive behind the shooting and looking if there was personal enmity considering the past events.
